School-Based Traineeship Years 10-12

The traineeship experience involves the completion of both off- and on-the-job training components. The off-the-job training consists of 3 education days per term. All school-based trainees are required to work 48 days per calendar year. These on-the-job training days include 40 days coaching at local primary schools, 4 Life Skills Days and 4 non-school days contributing to community initiatives.

Quarterly Life Skills Days

All Pass trainees participate in quarterly Life Skills Days during which partner organisations such as QAIHC and Queensland Health are invited to present healthy living seminars focused on personal hygiene and balanced nutrition, and sport organisations such as Queensland Touch and Cricket Queensland are invited to present drills and games. These days also feature activities that address: cultural awareness, mentoring, sports development, healthy lifestyle skills and possible pathway opportunities.

Mentoring

In the program Area Coordinators will act as positive role models for the Trainees, supporting in areas of school, sport and career pathways.  Senior coaches have been through the PASS system and assist in delivery of the programs while building a good rapport with younger trainees. This mentoring scheme has proven positive effects on PASS students with increased retention rates and greater internal/external career opportunities.
